Very inconclusive what is going on here. Certainly the monk could be defending himself against an attack by a disturbed person but from the video it is impossible to tell.

What is clear is the irresponsibility of the person who posted the clip, which without conclusive evidence just invites viewers to jump to conclusions.

The VDO is not very clear which only shown they are struggling with each other. It needs to be established who started and why. It looks to me that the Monk was trying to restrain the lady. If the Monk is a highly respected elderly Ajarn, as reported, then I am sure it won't be him to do such act without any good reason. Furthermore the article stated that the lady is believe to be mentally ill. I am sure whoever took the VDO must know the actual reason and he/she should explain clearly when posting such VDO on the internet, rather than just post it and let the pubic viewers join in the guessing game. This goes to the Reporter too!

The video speaks for itself. Whatever reason behind this story, it is not our concern to know it afte all, we can't do any help to them. The video shows something normal

I think it is impossible to made any hard conclusion other than there are two people fighting here....video is a strange medium in that everyone sees what they want to see, or better put, what they expect to see...we do not know what precipitated this nor do we know the conclusion. I would have to say that this is just disturbing. Thank you for reading my comment.

    A Thai style exorcism?

We cannot reach a sensible conclusion without all the evidence. Any person, including monks, have the right to defend themselves from assault. Whether this is the case is unknown. However, what is visible in the video appears to be the monk defending himself (back to the wall and sitting) then later attempting to restrain the woman. Once she is down he makes no additional aggressive moves.
