Poll: Amnesty bill could lead to conflict

The draft amnesty bill proposed by Pheu Thai MPs could bring about another round of political conflict, according to the survey results released on Saturday by Suan Dusit Poll at Suan Dusit Rajabaht University.

Draft legislation for a broad amnesty for people facing politically related charges, signed by 42 MPs of the Pheu Thai Party led by Worachai Hema, was submitted to House Speaker Somsak Kiatsuranont on Thursday.

The pollster said opinions on the move to seek amnesty for offenders in connection with the political rallies by Pheu Thai MPs were sought from 1,079 people in Bangkok and nearby provinces, between March 6 and March 8.

I finally agree with Howell. "Politically motivated ? Murder by RPG's, AK 47's etc and arson are crimes whatever the incentive." The Thai military should be brought to justice immediately if we are to believe Thailand is a democratic and civilized country.

Politically motivated ? Murder by RPG's, AK 47's etc and arson are crimes whatever the incentive.

What democratic civilized country would give this nonsense a moments thought ? None.

"Eroding the justice system". Ehh,what justice system? Since most Thais are corrupt or in favour of corruption,I doubt we'll ever have one. Both the PAD and the Reds initially spoke about doing something about corruption but what they really meant was their opponents corruption,not their own,as has been obvious since PTP won the election and Tarit continues to pay tribute to his owners,the Shinawatras,by constantly pressing fabricated and politically motivated charges against the Dems and not acting at all against PTP/UDD members or their coalition.
We are VERY close to a failed state,Thailand.

Amnesty is what is needed as the current justice system seems to be selective in whom they try and convict. Obviously the system is set to punish some and protect others therefore it would be wise to grant the amnesty and start fresh. Having said this if the system remains the same then of course matters will not improve.

Could lead to conflict? You don't say... A violent, loud minority run by a billionaire criminal trying to whitewash their crimes - which include amongst other things, terrorism, treason, sedition, arson, and murder - surely will not be accepted by the vast majority in society. Please remember, only 35% of all eligible voters even voted for PTP in last general election. With the populist scams collapsing, expect those numbers to drop further still.

They are always saying "could lead to ""conflict"". Of COURSE it will lead to conflict, what people here don't understand is that different people have different viewpoints, there has always been and always will be conflicts in a group of people, that is normal, not this rosy "Thainess" of always agreeing with everyone else, and never disagreeing with what you are told to believe'

There are a few people understand the fear of Thai people very well, and they believe their ill intimidation to many Thai people is still working. They clearly understand they can still capitalize on that fear to achieve whatever goals they have to derail the parliamentary and democratic process. It is very important for Thai people to realize that these bunches of people are in fact cowards themselves, and can no longer earn the trust of the majority. They will die down soon.
