Dems to boycott amnesty talks

The Democrat Party will not attend a discussion of a proposed new amnesty bill on Monday, spokesman Chavanond Intarakomalyasut said on Saturday.

Mr Chavanond said his party stood firm on its stance to oppose any move to seek amnesty for those facing criminal prosecution or accused of insulting the high institution.

The Democrats would agree only to amnesty for those facing charges of violating emergency decrees imposed during political unrest, he said.

    What else can the DEM do, other than boycotting the bills for reconciliation? No, they have nothing left other than boycott. Because the DEM have been repeatedly resorting to the dirty and unconstructive tactic of divide and conquer to fool some votes, and to try desperately to contain their support base from quickly and continuously abandoning them. They were the ones who started using this tactic of divide and conquer. So they have to take the consequences of their own deeds. I believe the DEMs are feeling very lonely lately. And they clearly show it again and again.

    Englishbob #26: It is a good concept to have an opposition party to keep the checks and balances on a government.

    However, the Dems are having a hard time being a good opposition since they have a problem with honesty and appears as clueless as they are incompetent. They even resorted to tanks and bullets to get into power, and killing civilians to hold on to power.

    Why do you need crooks like them to check on a government elected by a vast majority of Thais?

    @android, d22.

    "No doubt the dems will boycott the amnesty talks".

    Do you ever even read the articles?? The very first line of the above article confirms that the DP will boycot the amnesty talks, so yes, your "prediction" is true! :-)

    ...with all measures ot the judicial system. It will soon be 5 years, the most registered event abroad; a criminal mob taking, blocking, occupying Thailand's major airports in Suvarnabhumi, Don Muang and Phuket and terrorising ten thousands of tourists and travellers for 2 weeks. And none of these mobs appeared before court and none is in jail yet, where all of those criminals belong to for a long time. Democratic Thais, any idea what would happen to such people in any other western country??

    I actually think Android knows very well that Abhisit and Suthep has declined an amnesty. I also think he knows very well that the two will never be convicted, even the PTP MP thinks they won't. However, Android refuses to believe it, as if he does, he will have no more threats to post on this forum.

    Android: "Haha Mr. Abhisit, you won't get an amnesty!"
    Abhisit: "But I don't want one!!"
    Android: "Well, now you are definately not getting one!"
    Abhisit: "But, but ... sigh"

    @android d22.

    Why do you constantly insist on lying? It doesn't make it more true!

    We both know that both Mr. Abhisit and Mr. Suthep has publicly declined an amnesty for themselves - provided that Mr Thaksin does not get one either. I am quite sure they both prefer to clear their names in court.

    If Mr. Abhisit wanted to, he could call Mr. Thaksin tomorrow and agree on an amnesty for all three of them. According to your earlier posts, you have no doubt the courts will find Mr. Abhisit guilty and jail him. If you believe that, then why does he not just call Thaksin??

    I think you listen to too much red shirt radio!

    I know Thailand is different - a real Democracy never has putches; I don't know any western European or North American country having a coup in the last 50 years. Democracy also means fairplay; anything can be discussed, everyone participates and everyone can say no or yes. The decision of the majority (best if a public referendum rather than parliament)is also binding for the "loosers". The DP doesn't take it democratically in many issues; even their last PM never was voted democratically.
    However, an amnesty is hardly the right choice when only a few criminals are involved. Who commits crimes shall be punished with all measures of the judi

    Disc22 Android - "The amnesty bill will not include those who gave army the order to kill the protestors. "

    As usual... How many amnesty bills have Dems proposed? How many times have Suthep and Abhisit said they will refuse amnesty and will face trial?

    How many times does this need to be made public before you start to understand? It's SUCH a simple concept but you fail time and time again to understand? I really don't know why you bother reading the paper... You don't absorb any of it.

    I have the same feelings as Discussion 7. The Boss is the Master Manipulator and PT doesn't do anything without his approval. He has something devious up his sleeve, for sure. Perhaps he is hoping that he can get staged concessions leading to a stage at which he can be whitewashed, which is what of this is really about. We shouldn't forget this. If he really cared about the Red Shirts in prison, he would have had them freed ages ago. He is, I feel, using them for his own ends.

    After reading all comment. It's nothing to reconciliation. No amnesty needed. Thais are divided. They hate eachother.
