Nong May loses in final

Thailand's badminton sensation Ratchanok Intanon lost in her quest to become the country's first All England Badminton women's singles champion last night, beaten by Danish player Tine Baun in the final in Birmingham.

The 18-year-old Thai was beaten by the Dane 14-21, 21-16 and 10-21 in a uniquely emotional farewell match for her competitor who is one of the outstanding players in the past 10 years.

Despite her loss last night, Ratchanok, better known among local fans as "Nong May," became the first Thai woman player to reach the final of one of the world's oldest and most prestigious badminton tournaments.
