'Finland Declaration' ruling upheld

The Appeals Court on Tuesday upheld the Criminal Court's judgement acquitting Sondhi Limthongkul and 10 other defendants in a defamation case filed by the former Thai Rak Thai Party and former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra over a seminar on the "Finland Declaration".

The other defendants included former Bangkok senator Chirmsak Pinthong and prominent academics Chai-Anan Samudavanija and Pramote Nakhonthap, along with those involved in the broadcast of the discussion on the ASTV satellite network and the Manager website.

    Of course Sondhi and company had not proved the "Finland Declaration" really existed. None of their kooky conspiracy theories could ever be proven.

    Seems to me that the court is saying that you can make up any story you want, as the defendants did, and it is not defamation because the whole story was so far fetched and ridiculous that any sane person should have known it was not true. Of course the yellow shirts and the PAD did believe it, but they did not meet the definition of sane people.

    Instead of suing people for defamation maybe people should stop doing things to make others want to speak badly about them .
