Authorities close watch on BRN anniversary

Officials are keeping a close watch on business areas in the far South as the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) turns 53 on Wednesday.

Army chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha on Tuesday stressed the need for vigilance, especially in urban and town locations in Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala provinces.

The order to be alert came with the anniversary of the founding day of the separatist group, which was set up on March 13, 1961.

    A marine ranger unit will make a formal debute on April 1... April 1st? Couldn't make it on March 31st, not to be fooled? Yes, this is just a joke, not like starting ASEAN on December 31st (instead of January 1st) 2015, not to lose face starting one whole year later, because of, of, well of some reason.

    Does the Barisan Revolusi Nasional have an Indonesian origin? I watch the indonesian tv channel in my apartment and this names sounds much like the name of other militant organizations in Indonesia. Thailand should probably share some information with Indonesia on this. I can tell you that the Indonesian authorities come down VERY HEAVILY on these outfits - no talks, deals and agreements. A thorough study of such problems in neighbouring countries might be useful.
