The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) will act against businesses and local politicians who are accused of illegally building resorts on Khao Kho forest reserve in Phetchabun province.
A DSI inspection yesterday found three resorts had been built on forest land covering 150 rai in tambon Nong Maena of Khao Kho district. Local businessmen, state officials and local politicians colluded in the encroachment, the DSI's initial investigation found.
DSI deputy chief Pol Col Yanphon Yangyue said the agency is acting on a complaint from the Third Army's Pa Muang Task Force. The DSI, soldiers and wildlife officials raided the resorts yesterday but did not find the owners. Pol Col Yanphon said forest encroachers will be dealt with swiftly, although pursuing an indictment against them could take some time.
