UN probes Rohingya shooting claim

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has asked the Thai government to verify recent reports that a Rohingya boat was towed out from Thai waters, and that shots were fired during the interception.

UNHCR officials have met with survivors of an incident reported in Phangnga province, cross-checked their accounts with other sources and established that the incident is the same one reported by boat people who arrived in Aceh, Indonesia on Feb 26.

Those interviewed in both countries said that they left their village in Myanmar's northern Rakhine state around Feb 5. During the journey lasting three weeks, they ran out of food and water. When intercepted by authorities in Thai waters, they were provided with some assistance and then twice towed from Thai waters out to sea.

WATERS D5: "Why are Thais so xenophobic?"

It has to be remembered the Thai junta collaborated with the Japanese Empire during WWII. Britain and France even declared Thailand and enemy state after WWII and demanded reparations which wold have humiliated Thailand and put it into heavy debt. Thailand was saved by the US.

Some facts people are unaware of:

Bangkok was bombed by the allies during WWII.

Thailand deckared war on the US in WWII.

The xenophobic attitude even toward Isan people and others is flabbergasting.

Too bad for the military they do not now have Suthep to say:

"The military did not shoot anybody; the people sailed into the bullets".

The BBC Radio reported before that boatloads of Rohingyas landed in Sri Lanka after being turned away by the Thai navy. Investigations revealed that the boats originated from Bangladesh before making a stop over to take on Ronhingyas.

As the muslim Bangladeshis are not part of the solution, they are likely to be part of the problem. Looks like they are helping the Rohingyas to stir religious intolerance in Myanmar. Have any Rohingyas or Bangladeshis been caught participating in the southern insurgency here?

Future generations of Thais studying their past history will, with shame, learn about how Thailand treated their neighboring Asian refugees in their greatest hour of need. The robbing, raping, and murdering of thousands of Vietnamese ‘boat people’ in the early '80s, and the trafficking and expulsion of Royhingya during 2012-2013. Why are Thais so xenophobic?

Why are Thais so xenophobic? Look at multi-ethnic countries lik Malaysia, Singapore, the USA, and the U.K. Ethnic diversity can enrich a nation.

The fleeing Vietnamese who were re-settled in the early '80 are thriving today, and benefit their adopted host nations.

And why do Thailand's superiors (Army, Navy, Police, Government and Politicians) never want to start learning that the outside world is watching Thailand, every move, events and behaviour. Bad behaviour is being registered and will never be beneficial to the nation and people of Thailand. Start learning; maybe the english language first.

The Royal Thai Navey doesnt exactly have a good record in the way they treat these people and the British Navey has Thai sailors working with them to control Pirates of of Somalia we should put them into small boats and set them adrift so they can understand the cruel way they behave.

"The navy towed them from Thai waters out to sea"
What a disgrace for the army and a shame for our country.

The reports around the world clearly state a very different view, from the one posted in Thailand. They have been caught Human Trafficking the people. Maybe they shot them as well.
