Product promotion angers tired commuters

Hundreds of angry commuters eager to get home pushed and shoved, and berated the organisers of a product promotion that caused a huge pedestrian jam in the heart of Bangkok during the Monday evening rush hour.

The PR presentation for a shower gel began about 5pm at Victory Monument.

A shower room was set up at a congested pedestrian overpass and celebrity Pakorn "Boy" Chatborirak was the product presenter.

Don't you have to get a permit to do this? The plans would be sent to the Fire Dept for review.

Advertising and promotion are paid for by the consumer.

If possible, do not buy branded products.

at Disc 5: "What part of the brain did the organiser use to come up with this". No part.

Totally wrong: I'm pretty sure they used all of their 5 braincells! :-)

Hope this is a trend towards Bangkokians learning that it's okay to fight back against the encroachment of advertisers on the life of normal people. From BTS' blaring video boxes and platform speakers, to huge, sun-bright LCD display hoardings and ear-splitting sound systems, to the panels on the aisles and checkouts of Tesco-Lotus and the karaoke boxes assailing passing customers of smaller stores - it's good to let these sensory bullies know they make you feel.

@bangkokbob, you write about “Marketing out the of stone age.”
I guess you are right but it also seems that this kind of marketing works (not just in Thailand). I guess otherwise people would not use it.
    .
For the future I suggest an advertisement campaign for Victoria's Secret similar to their yearly fashion show.
Sure it would completely paralyze Bangkok’s traffic but it beats “Boy” any day. :)

This event and 'Boy' epitomize Thailand with their cute chaotic oblivion. It really transcends mere 'promotion' and should be toured around the world as performance art.

    Sheer ignorance on display here.

These companies who promote their products by giving "pretties" or celebrities microphones and huge speakers in public places so they can blab away at deafening volumes are so selfish, obnoxious and rude. Marketing out the of stone age.

I think this is just one example of how the advertisement industry uses the streets of Bangkok. Sometimes I see a couple of motorcycles with advertisement hangers in the middle of the traffic, sometimes large groups of promoters use pedestrian crossings to advertise their products and often they almost block the entrances and (emergency) exists of buildings. And then there are the flag waving promoters for all the new condominiums, etc. I often have to change the lane to avoid them.
I guess even if there would be laws to regulate this nobody would care. But at least we can remember which brands make our life difficult and boycott them.
