Yaowapa picked for by-election

Yaowapa Wongsawat has been selected as the Pheu Thai candidate in the April 21 by-election for the vacant seat in Chiang Mai's constituency 3, party spokesman Prompong Nopparit said on Tuesday.

The selection of Mrs Yaowapa, a younger sister of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, was made at the meeting of Pheu Thai executive committee.

Mr Prompong said Mrs Yaowapa was the only person nominated at the meeting.

Well, I guess this answers my question as to the veracity of the comments by PT spokesmen as regards K. Yaowapa's poltical future. No surprises here.

Discussion 10. Politics had always been a family buisness. If your name is Shinawatra even with no slightest clue in the political ring you still can be prime minister. Popularity > capability in Thai politics.

This really is a family business

Thaksin must be very happy to see the dems could do nothing to stop his sister Yaowapa to become a PT MP.

D3@oldexp - actually this could be a recognition that Khun Thaksin is not coming home any time soon and even then will not to take up the PM slot again in accordance with plan A and they need a plan B because the temporary stand in is running out of gas (not surprisingly) and certainly does not want to fight the next election and serve another term after this. Short term it may also recognise that Khun Chalerm will retire at the next election (and completely failed in amnesty and charter change) thus Khun Thaksin requires a loyal replacement in Parliament to keep the troops properly aligned

The more they will try to suppress Thaksin, the more Thaksin will try to come back... I am surprised the 'democrats' haven't figured out this on yet. I believe if the military hadn't made a coup in 2006, the people by now would have been tired of their populist leader. Trust democracy instead of suppressing it when it doesn't go your way... in other words : grow up!

Disc. "1 - "Contrarian, it seems the Dems weren't speculating after all, were they?

The agenized speculation that the PAD-Dem's engaged in, did not concern the selection of who to run for that vacant seat, but the whole ridiculous party list #1 stuff, and suggesting this woman had Prime Ministerial potential.

This was scoffed at by the Red Shirts, and seen as PAD-Dem mischief making.

One thing that is not speculative, is the self-serving, knee-jerk PAD-Dem need to demonize their electoral nemesis Mr. Thaksin. They will look for every opportunity do that as continuance of their attempted campaign to whitewash their coupist roots.
