Power demand hits record high

Thailand’s electricity demand surged to a record high at 2.30pm on Thursday of 26,430 megawatts as the mercury climbed to 39.1 degrees Celsius. 

Thursday’s peak demand surpassed the previous record of 26,121 megawatts on April 26 last year when the temperature hit 38.5 degrees Celsius, Sutat Patmasiriwat, governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat), said on Thursday.

The demand was expected to reach as much as 27,000 megawatts, he added.
