The minister of information and communication technology backed down from a threat made on Sunday, and said he has no authority to close down websites.
After telling reporters on Sunday that websites that allow criticism of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will be shut down, ICT Minister Anudith Nakornthap said on Tuesday that any such decision lies with the Criminal Court.
Once the court rules that a website should be shut, the ICT Ministry informs internet service providers to follow the court's order, he said. This system has been in effect for several years.
