A building housing the public service office of the highway police in Nong Chik district of Pattani province was raided and set on fire overnight by militants, and the highway monitoring system damaged, police said.
Pol Col Yukol Prasartnanont, the Nong Chik police chief, said the raid occurred about 1.30am Tuesday. About five militants broke into the highway police public service office on Pattani-Hat Yai road in tambon Bo Thong.
They destroyed monitoring control system equipment, including 30 monitor screens, and damaged 10 closed-circuit television cameras installed in the vicinity and on power poles before setting fire to the building, which was partly destroyed.
