'Fussy' monks stir suspicion in Portugal

- +

Three monks who claimed to be affiliated with revered former abbot Mitsuo Shibahashi have aroused suspicion by showing up uninvited at the Thai embassy in Lisbon and behaving like fussy tourists while staying there.

A source from the Foreign Ministry said yesterday the monks - two Thai nationals and one Australian - requested to stay at the embassy during their Portugal visit from June 25 to July 2.

The monks claimed they had a close relationship with former monk Mitsuo, who recently left the monkhood, and were disciples of the late venerable monk Luang Pu Cha.
