Greens urge Khamronwit punishment

- +

The Green Politics group has demanded the national police chief punish Bangkok police chief Gen Khamronwit Thoopkrachang after the Ombudsman ruled his meeting with fugitive former premier Thaksin Shinawatra in Hong Kong last year was inappropriate and damaged the police force's credibility.

Jaturun Boonbenjarat, assistant coordinator of the group, said Monday that apart from the Ombudsman’s ruling that Pol Lt Gen Khamronwit had breached police ethics, the general should also be punished for violating police disciplinary regulations for failing in his duty to arrest Mr Thaksin.

He urged national police chief Adul Saengsingkaew to tread carefully on the issue to protect the dignity of Thai police.
