Rosary beads in hands, the authorities, local residents, the media, and even the detractors of peace dialogue, count the passing days. Insha Allah. Sign of the cross. Buddha help us. Let's pray that this symbolic experiment yields tangible results. Let's hope it lasts.
Sardonic naysayers are wondering aloud why the no-violence period has to last only 40 days - why not 40 weeks, or 40 months? Why not forever? And though they have a point, let's take one step at a time. The wounds are deep; they won't heal in a mere month.
