The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has ordered nine schools to close for three days, Aug 7-9, because of the planned rally by the anti-government People's Force for Democracy to Overthrow Thaksinism (Pefot), Bangkok governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra announced on Tuesday.
The nine are Wat Thammapirataram, Wat Benjamabopit, Wat Chansamosorn, Wat Thewaratkunchorn, Wat Samana Namborihan, Wat Pracha Rabuetham, Wat Sawat Wari Simaram, Wat Ratchaphatikaram and Sukhothai schools.
All are in Dusit district, where the government has imposedthe Internal Security Act (ISA).
Mr Sukhumbhand cited security concerns as the reason for the closure of the schools.
