A small number of protesting farmers in Nakhon Si Thammarat's Cha-Uat district continued to block Khuan Nong Hong intersection on Wednesday, under close watch by police forces deployed a short distance away.
Pol Maj Gen Kittisan Dejsoonthornwat, a deputy provincial police commander, said the police were closely monitoring the protesters' activities and were ready to handle any violence that may occur.
Rubber protesters have been blocking Highway No. 41, demanding the government guarrantee a price of 100 baht a sheet for unsmoked rubber, at a time when global prices have plunged. The oil palm growers supporting them are demanding six baht a kilogramme for their nuts.
The protest was resumed on Saturday night after police earlier reopened the highway.
