Three men were arrested with 10,000 litres of bootleg diesel in the sea off Krabi's Muang district, the Customs Department said on Monday.
Officials inspect the vessel of three men arrested while trying to smuggle 10,000 litres of bootleg diesel in Krabi's Muang district.
Charoen Chamniklang, head of the department's investigative division in Phuket, said the Provincial Navy Region 3 raided a white fishing boat carrying 50 barrels full of illicit diesel on Sunday evening. The boat and the fuel worth approximately 600,000 baht were seized.
Authorities apprehended Samrit Thongsai, captain of the vessel, and two of his subordinates. They confiscated the fuel on board and the boat as evidence.
Mr Samrit confessed that he was hired to purchase black market fuel and sell on to local fishermen for 20 baht a litre.
The group was sent to Phuket Customs House to face charges of fuel smuggling.
Police are working to track down those behind the operation.
