Thai authorities have called on their Myanmar counterparts to help intercept drugs smuggled across the border following a clash between police and drug traffickers in Chiang Rai which killed a commissioned police officer.

The issue was raised in the 77th Thai-Myanmar Border Township Committee meeting in Myanmar's Tachilek border town on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, a police officer was killed and two others wounded in a gun battle with drug traffickers, in a forest in tambon Wiang of Chiang Rai's Wiang Pa Pao district.
