Protesters blow whistles at hearing

- +

A public hearing on water management projects in Phitsanulok drew fierce protests yesterday from activists who claimed the government failed to take into account the views of all stakeholders.

The projects proposed include Khlong Chompoo reservoir, levees surrounding Muang Phitsanulok municipality and tambon Phrom Phiram municipality and water retention areas in five districts.

Deputy Prime Minister Plodprasop Suraswadi, who was scheduled to preside over the hearing at Pibulsongkram Rajabhat University in Muang district, failed to show up as about 200 protesters who are opposing the reservoir breached the police defence line to surround the hearing room about 7am.
