Ministry says order not to curb protests

The Foreign Ministry has explained to foreign envoys in Bangkok that invoking the emergency decree is not aimed at prohibiting protests. 

Nor is it being implemented to use the military to take a leading role in operations to maintain peace and order, it said.

A total of 73 diplomats and representatives from international organisations _ 31 of them ambassadors _ attended a briefing on the political situation and the invocation of the emergency decree.
