More than 160 people who were affected by the blaze at the Phraeksa rubbish dump in Samut Prakan last month have petitioned the Administrative Court to order seven organisations to come up with better ways to deal with toxic and industrial waste materials.

Submitting its petition to the court yesterday, the group of 162 local residents named the organisations as tambon Phraeksa local administration organisation, the Samut Prakan public health office, the provincial governor, the Pollution Control Department, the provincial industry office, the Industrial Works Department, and the Office of the National Environment Board.

Suchart Naknok, who led the Chum Chon Phraeksa locals to submit the petition, said the state organisations had failed to perform their duties properly which resulted in the rubbish dump being operated illegally.
