The Department of Special Investigation and the Central Investigation Bureau will help local military and police officers in the probe into an influential Pattani business figure who was arrested for alleged involvement in several underground businesses in the deep South.

A senior military officer questions Sahachai Jiarasermsin, also known as Sia Jo, an influential business figure in Pattani during a military raid on his house last week. Mr Sahachai is said to have political ties with former cabinet ministers and is accused of involvement in numerous illegal businesses in the deep South. (Photo by Abdulloh Benjakat)
