Thailand’s 29th prime minister has set off a frenzy among lottery players looking for “lucky” number 29.
Ticket numbers connected, even tangentially, to Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha are either sold out or in short supply in Nakhon Ratchasima province. Buyers snatched up digits signifying his rank in the country's roster of premiers, his birth year, age and even birthday.
At ticket stalls on Jomphol Road behind the Thao Suranaree Monument - the biggest government-lottery market in Nakhon Ratchasima - single pairs of tickets with the number 29 were gone. A handful of ticket sets with 29 remained, but those were selling for 1,200-3,000 baht for each set of 10-28 tickets.
