A majority of people are still undecided whether to accept or reject the draft constitution in the Aug 7 referendum, according to the result of an opinion survey by National Institute for Development Administration, or Nida Poll.
The poll was conducted on June 6-7 on 1,501 people aged 18 and over of various levels of education and occupations throughout the country.
This was the fourth survey on the charter referendum. Nida plans to carry out the survey for 11 times during the lead-up to the Aug 7 poll. The first one was carried out on May 1.
To the question whether they will vote for or against the draft charter, a huge majority, 62.96%, said they were still undecided (up from 39.53% in the 3rd survey); 28.71% would vote for it; 7.13% would vote against it; and, 1.20% said they would go to cast their votes, but not for or againt it.
Asked how they will vote on a proposal for appointed senators to have the right to vote along with members of the House of Representatives to elect the prime minister, 52.70% were still undecided (up from 38.47% in the 3rd survey); 27.38% said they would vote for it; 18.92% would vote to reject it; and 1% would go to vote, but their votes would not be for or against it.
