Majority still undecided on draft charter

As the Aug 7 referendum is drawing nearer, a majority of people are still undecided whether to vote for or against the draft charter, according to an opinion survey carried out by National Institute for Development Administration, or Nida Poll.

The fifth survey on the charter referendum was conducted on June 20-21 on 1,500 people aged 18 and over of various levels of education and occupations.

To the question of whether they will vote to accept or reject the draft charter, a majority, 66.07%, said they were still undecided; 25.4% said they would vote for it; 6.33% would vote against it; and, 2.2% said they would vote, but not for or against it.

Asked about a proposal for the appointed senators to vote along with members of the House of Representatives to elect the prime minister during the five-year transition period, a majority, 55.67%, said they were still undecided, 26.4% would vote for it; 17.27% would vote against it; and, 0.66% said they would go to vote, but not for or against it.
