Majority still undecided over charter

With only two weeks before the Aug 7 referendum, most people are still undecided whether to vote for or against the draft charter, according to a survey conducted by National Institute for Development Administration, or Nida Poll.

The survey, the 9th of its kind, was carried out on July 20-21 on 1,500 people aged 18 and over of all levels of education and various occupations throughout the country.

To the question whether they would vote to accept or reject the draft charter, a majority, or 59.73%, of the respondents said they were still undecided (a drop from 62.48% in the 8th survey); 32.27% said they would vote for it (30.41% in the previous survey); 5.93% would vote against it; and, 2.07% said they would vote, but not for or against it.

Asked about a proposal for elected senators to vote along with members of the House of Representatatives to elect the prime minister during the five-year transition, 48.14% said they were still undecided (a drop from 51.43% in the 8th survey); 29.40% said they would vote for it (a slight increase from 29.01% in the 8th survey); 21.13% would vote against it; and, 1.33% would go to vote, but not for or against the proposal.
