Almost half of voters will endorse the draft constitution while an increasing number of people were undecided, one of the last polls conducted seven days before the referendum has found.

Asked whether they would endorse the charter if today were the referendum day, 48.4% said they would, up 3.7 percentage points from the previous poll done 15 days ahead of the referendum date, according to the Bangkok Poll survey done between July 26-29 released on Saturday.

Only 7.7% would reject it, down 2.1 points, while 8.5% would abstain, down 3.7 points from the previous poll.

Interestingly, 35.4% said they were uncertain, up 2.1 points, according to the poll, which was conducted on 2,810 people nationwide.

The margin of error was ±3 percentage points at a 95% confidence rate.

An overwhelming 87.8% will vote, up two points from the previous poll. Only 6.2% would not go, down 0.9 points and 6% were undecided, down 1.1 points.

Some 66% also said they were very or most satisfied with the performance of the Election Commission in propagating knowledge and information on the charter while 25.7% said they were only slightly satisfied and 8.3% were uncertain.

Asked whether they worried some groups might cause unrest and violence as the referendum neared, 75.4% were not worried while 22% were concerned and 2.6% were uncertain.

The Referendum Act bans polling seven days ahead of the Aug 7 referendum date so this poll might be one of the last.
