Nineteen members of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship, led by Jatuporn Prompan, reported to the Crime Suppression Division on Monday morning on charges of illegal assembly relating to the Aug 7 charter referendum.

On June 19, the UDD members held a press conference at Imperial Lat Phrao shopping centre to open a centre to monitor for fraud in all provinces during the Aug 7 charter referendum.

Police charged them with violating an order of the National Council for Peace and Order prohibiting a political gathering of five or more people.

Accompanied by lawyer Winyat Chartmontree, the UDD members today reported to the CSD for further legal proceedings.

Mr Jatuporn said their lawyer had earlier asked police investigators to question eight more defence witnesses including Pongthep Thepkanchana, Manit Chitchanklab and Pokin Polakul, who are legal experts.

If the request was rejected, he and other UDD members would probably be taken to the prosecution section of the Military Court for indictment, he said.
