The military prosecutors will decide on Dec 16 whether to indict the 19 red-shirted leaders facing charges of illegal assembly relating to the Aug 7 charter referendum.

Seventeen of the 19 members of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship reported to the Crime Suppression Division on Monday, and were taken to the Bangkok Military Court where their case was referred to the prosecution for indictment.

The court ordered the group to return by mid-December to hear the indictment decision after the prosecutors said they would need time to review evidence, including statements from eight defence witness who were legal experts.

Veerakarn Musikhapong and Jatuporn Prompan, the movement’s chairman, were not present in court. Mr Veerakarn had requested the CSD investigators to report himself on Tuesday. Mr Jatuporn was sent to the Bangkok Remand Prison last week after the Criminal Court revoked bail earlier granted him on charges of terrorism linked to  the violent UDD street protests in 2010.

The group was charged with violating an order of the National Council for Peace and Order by holding a press conference on June 19 at the Imperial Lat Phrao shopping mall to open a centre to monitor for fraud in the Aug 7 charter referendum.
