CDC to reveal draft Political Party Bill Thursday

The Constitution Drafting Committee has finished the draft Political Party Bill and will make it public tomorrow, CDC chairman Meechai Ruchupan said on Wednesday.

Mr Meechai said the bill has 124 sections, which include steps to reset the system of political party membership.

Details will be disclosed to the public on Thursday, he said before attending a CDC meeting on Wednesday.

Mr Meechai also said that after finishing the organic law on politics, the CDC still has to draft several other laws on independent agencies, including the National Human Rights Commission.  They will need help from resourceful people to do this.

The CDC might invite people with the required knowledge and expertise in various fields to apply for seats  on various subcommittees assigned to help draft organic laws, he said.

He had asked CDC members to look for people with such qualifications and persuade them to help.

Committee member Thienchai Na Nakorn said the draft Political Party Bill would be posted on CDC's website for the public, members of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) and the National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA) to study.

They could send their suggestions to the CDC for consideration before the draft is forwarded to the NLA, he said.
