‘Jeng Dokjik’ gets 5-year ban from politics

Red-shirt co-leader Yosvaris ‘Jeng Dokjik’ Chuklom has been handed a one-month prison term, suspended for a year, and fined 4,000 baht for failing to declare his assets and liabilities after leaving office as an adviser to the deputy agriculture minister in 2013.

The judgement delivered by the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Persons Holding Political Positions on Tuesday also banned him from holding political or government office for five years.

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) accused the former comedian of intending to hide his assets after he was required to declare them within a year after leaving office but failed to do so.

Yosvaris affirmed his innocence, saying he failed to comply with the regulation because of some misunderstanding and that the NACC’s notice was sent to his old house. However, he admitted in court to a charge of violating the anti-graft law.

The court initially sentenced Yosvaris to two months, suspended for a year, but halved it because he confessed.

In 2014, the Appeals Court upheld the Criminal Court's two-year jail sentence on Yosvaris for committing lese majeste offence while addressing red-shirt demonstrators at Makkhawan Rangsan bridge in 2010.
The Criminal Court will read the Supreme Court’s ruling in the case on Dec 15.
