The Citizens Against Single Gateway group has announced on its webpage "Thailand Internet Firewall #opsinglegateway" that it will step up attacks on government websites from Dec 20 in protest against the National Legislative Assembly's endorsement of an amendment to the Computer Crime Act.

The group said that 168 members of the NLA, who were appointed by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), voted on Friday to pass the amendment bill without paying attention to the voice of opposition from more than 360,000 people.
Following the passage of the amendment bill, a large number of Thai people and freedom-loving allies in other countries had shown opposition to the law in various forms, but Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd, the government spokesman, had told the public that there had been no such moves, the announcem ent said.
"Therefore, as an advance warning to the government and the people, if by Dec 19, 2016 the government has not shown a sign of delaying the process of implementing of the law, we the group of people against single gateway, will step up a cyber war from Dec 20 so that all concerned can be prepared to cushion possible effects on their life and transactions," the group's announcement said.
Lt Gen Sansern on Sunday called on those who intended to join protests against the computer crime law to reconsider as they could be in violation of the law.
He criticised opponents of the computer crime law, saying they were crossing the line and could be viewed as instigating chaos by breaking the law and establishing themselves as hackers.
