His Majesty the King will preside over a ceremony for the promulgation of the 2017 constitution at the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall on Thursday April 6, which is Chakri Day, the Royal Household Bureau announced.
The announcement, dated April 3 and signed by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha as commander of the Royal Household Bureau, outlines the schedule for the ceremony as follows:
At 3pm on April 6, His Majesty the King arrives at the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall of the Dusit Palace.
Those on hand to receive him will include members of the royal family, the Privy Council, the cabinet, diplomatic corps, the National Legislative Assembly the Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC), president of the Supreme Court, presidents of independent organisations, and military and civilian personnel.
His Majesty's principal private secretary will then present the new constitution to the King, who will sign and pass it to the prime minister.
The Bureau of Royal Scribes and Royal Decorations under the cabinet secretariat will then read out the royal announcement on the promulgation of the constitution.
After the draft charter was approved at a referendum it was forwarded to His Majesty the King for approval.
However, the King returned it to the government for changes. A special 11-member committee was then set up to amend it. The amended version was then returned to His Majesty for royal endorsement.
After receiving royal approval, April 6 was set for the promulgation of the new charter.
The next task of the CDC is to complete the drafting of organic laws governing the new political system.
