KHON KAEN - Seven people accused of contempt of court in connection with a Feb 10 gathering to voice support for lese majeste suspect Jatupat Boonpattararaksa reported to the provincial court Monday to acknowledge charges.

They were among supporters of Mr Jatupat, better known as Pai Dao Din, who rallied for his release amid tight security at the courthouse in early February. Officials filed a civil lawsuit accusing them of contempt.

The hearing was held behind closed doors. More than 50 police led by Pol Col Noppadol Phetsut, superintendent of Muang Khon Kaen police, were deployed to beef up security. He said the summons were issued as the protest took place after the court denied bail to Mr Jatupat.
