Channel 3 operator BEC World Plc has rejected speculation of a takeover by former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

The rumour spread online and was highlighed by a programme on rival Spring News TV on Tuesday after former executives of leading mobile operator Advanced Info Service (AIS) began working for BEC World.

AIS was found by Thaksin and later sold to Singapore-based Temasek group in 2006.

BEC on Monday also announced an ambitious plan to gear towards online platforms.

Prachum Maleenont, vice-chairman of the board and chief executive of BEC World, on Wednesday informed company staff that such rumours were groundless.

He said no change had been made in the structure of the company’s major shareholders. His management team was still in charge of the firm’s operations.

Mr Prachum said BEC World had undergone organisational restructuring and brought in professional personnel to boost its competitiveness.

He affirmed he and the executive would work their hardest to ensure the sustainable prosperity of the organisation, and asked the staff not to be hindered by any rumours.

Thaksin fled Thailand shortly before the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions found him guilty in 2008 of abuse of authority in the Ratchadaphisek land deal case and sentenced him in absentia to two years in jail.
