The writing of the 20-year national strategic plan kicked off Tuesday with the first meeting of the 34-member committee.
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, who chaired the meeting, said his job is only to fine-tune the 20-year strategy ideas that have been tabled.
"I'm not worried about the task," Gen Prayut told reporters, saying this is a job he, together with officials and experts, have done jointly for many months.
A draft national strategy plan is already in place, so what the committee is going to do is to make it more complete, he said.
His government earlier set up the Committee for National Administration under the Framework of National Reform, Strategy and Reconciliation. The committee, which is often called by its Thai abbreviation of the Por Yor Por committee, is also chaired by Gen Prayut.
Four committees, including the 34-member committee, established to prepare and push national strategy, national reform, reconciliation and strategic national administration have been working under the Por Yor Por's umbrella.
The committee on national strategy that prepared the framework for the 20-year strategy is made up of senior officials and experts.
They include Deputy Prime Minister Prajin Juntong, former national resources and environment minister Praphat Panyachartrak, former secretary-general of the Office of Higher Education Kachon Tatiyakawi and former permanent secretary for public health Narongsak Angkhawuwaphala.
The National Legislative Assembly passed two laws detailing steps to draft national reform and national strategy as required by the new constitution, which came into effect on April 6.
Gen Prayut is aware that many committees can lead to work overlaps, so he recently decided to reorganise some of them, according to a source at Government House.
The premier has instructed his deputy Wissanu Krea-ngam to help restructure committee work.
Two committees, which work on national strategy and national reform, will be removed from the Por Yor Por, the source said.
