The Puea Thai party filed an impeachment motion against Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Wednesday, with seven charges backing the move.

Puea Thai MP for Yasothon Peeraphan Palusuk led a group of about 20 party MPs to file the motion seeking the impeachment of Mr Abhisit with Senate Speaker Prasobsuk Boondej.

He presented a letter with a list of 158 MPs who backed the motion.

Mr Abhisit faces seven charges and allegations:

  • his involvement in requesting royal intervention in appointing a prime minister;
  • siding with the People's Alliance for Democracy during last years political chaos;
  • his "undemocratic" rise to power;
  • being a mastermind of the PAD and appointing PAD members as ministers and their advisers;
  • attempting to conceal donations made to the Democrat party;
  • making a false report about the membership of a party member to a provincial election commission, and,
  • asking Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij to cooperate with a mobile service provider in sending text  messages to its  customers after he was elected prime minister.

After receiving the letter, Mr Prasobsuk said he needed 15 days to verify the names of the MPs.If all checked out he would notify the Senate and forward the case to the National Anti-Corruption Commission.

Chief government whip Chinaworn Boonyakiat said the seven charges were not strong enough to remove Mr Abhisit or to bring down the government.

    @somboon, it seems that Thailand need as you said
    this construction to get stabilety.
    The Puea Thai are the reel firemaker on the dry
    forest. It shows that Abhisit sit strong and have much support in every cirkels, and so far he deserv it.
    Everybody support the white shirt, it is enough
    pushing with som few fanatics and liers.
    The whole proceder make the things for Puea Thai
    more difficult and nowbody will be ready to bee
    generous with them.

    Puea Thai can not stop to put fire to thailand.
    There is no chance for them and MR Thaxin. How
    much Money they got from the "crook" to start a impeachment on the parlament. This party is discusting, but they seem never to giv up.
    Maybe time is runing away to them, and they know
    as longer and better this parlament and Abhisit are on the Job, more people will stay away from the Puea Thai Party.
    This charges make me smile, it is nothing and
    no reason to impeach. Clinten had Lewinski and
    it was no reason, so what are this charges, just peanuts.

    Childs play...This is a pathetic attempt by Yasothon Peeraphan Palusuk and his fellow sour grapes Puea Thai MPs to bring down the most qualified individual to lead Thailand in the 21st century (Western calendar). They're just trying to muck things up to hide their own inadequacies and incompetence by going after a good man. Yasothon and his rank and file do nothing but add to the divas and drama queens of Thai politics, which I never enjoyed reading or hearing about when I lived in Thailand...too much like "nam now" (raw sewage) often show on Channel 3. When are these MPs going to grow up?

    Thailand is really starting to look like a huge joke. It's a shame that my favorite country just cannot get the crap together.

    Who's the PM this month? Who will the PM be next month? It just makes the people in the country look incredibly weak and terribly scatterbrained to change government like they change underwear.

    In most other 'democratic' societies, people have to live with the schmucks that are elected--even if they don't like them. The exception to this rule is, of course, when that said person is a criminal and is impeached or forced out (i.e., Nixon or Thaksin) for an ACTUAL legitimate reason...other than 'I just don't like him because my party didn't win the election' (i.e., what's happening now in Thailand.)

    You know Puea Thai is just nothing but a former Thai Rak Thai back by Mr. Taskin...nothing differrent! At least we now have a PM who is here is for the country, not to gain wealth for himself, family and friend. I don't see this going to be possible to impeach current PM. Puea Thai already try to pass a bill to gain power by restoring all corrupted polictican...that didn't work.
