People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) core leader Sondhi Limthongkul will hold a press conference on Friday about what happened on the early morning of April 17 when heavily armed gunmen sprayed a hail of bullets at his car.

It will be the first time Mr Sondhi, who claims he saw everything, has given a public account of what happened.

The news conference is scheduled for 12.30pm at the Manager offices on Phra Arthit road.

Mr Sondhi, his assistant and this driver were injured in the ambush, the driver criticially. The PAD founder, who had a very lucky escape, underwent a two-hour operation to remove a bullet fragment from his skull.

Army chief Anupong Paojinda has admitted that three spent cartridge cases found at the scene of the attack were M16  rifle shells from the army. Police investigators said they were stamped RTA, short for Royal Thai Army.

However, army spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd said Gen Anupong's earlier comments that the bullets came from the 9th Infantry Division in Kanchanaburi province were premature.

Further investigation was needed before this could be confirmed, Col Sansern said.

The "real" killers will never be found as has always been the case in Thailand for the past decades. Many individuals have been killed by hired gunmen and many also by the corrupt military and even more corrupt police. As the old saying goes, "politics is a dirty game" Sodhi may have escaped this time BUT it won't be long before they catch up with him, I'm sad to say. That's the mantra of the old politics which is still very dominant in Thailand.
