The United Arab Emirates has been asked not to allow former prime minister Thaksin Shinawtra to continue to stay in Dubai and make it his base for political activities against the Thai government, the foreign minister's secretary, Chavanont Intarakomalsut, said on Wednesday.

Mr Chavanont said the request was made through UAE ambassador to Thailand Mohammed Ali Ahmed Omran Al Shamri who was called in to see Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya.

Mr Kasit asked that the UAE government cooperate and not allow Thaksin to stay because there was solid evidence the  the convicted former prime minister had used Dubai as a base for political activities against the Thai government.

Mr Chavanont said the ambassador agreed to convey Mr Kasit's message to his government as soon as possible and the Foreign Ministry hoped to receive a satisfactory reply.

The Foreign Ministry did not set a timeframe for the UAE to ask Thaksin to leave the country, he said.

Mr Chavanont said he had no idea whether the UAE would allow Thaksin to continue to remani in Dubai on Sunday  when the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship planns a mass anti-government rally in Bangkok.  However, he believed the UAE would cooperate.

He said the UAE had asked the Foreign Ministry to translate the court verdict in Thaksin's assets case into Arabic.  This showed the UAE was interested in this case.

Mr Chavanont expected an extradition treaty between Thailand and the UAE would be signed by the end of this year.

The leader of PAD that shut down the airport affecting hundreds of arab visitors. Would a ruler of 7 emirate kingdom listern to does what that leader tell him? Would a unelected prime minister through military coup carries the same weight as a prime minister elected by a democratic country?
This would be like asking Tiger Wood to be their poster guy for women rights. Surely, other neighbouring rulers would look down on this small little state a mockery of smart rule. There are already so in debt, scaring away rich investors is NO-No. If thailand offer to pay off Dubai debt, extradiction can be discussed.

Yes, it will stop when Thailand gets someone with a strong will to do something about it, and sufficient power to remove all of the obstacles in his path.

In short, it will never happen. The obstacles are simply too great.

When is Kasit going to jail for joining in the airport hijacking? There is very "solid evidence"
    against him.

Before people get up in the morning and put on their red or yellow shirt for the day, should they consider the immediate impact their actions are having on potential investment, jobs, growth, tourism and the overall view of instabilty and insecurity that the WORLD had about Thailand? Is there a way to get this done without collapsing the entire Thai economy, and makond me and all of my Farang friends want to move ourselves and our investment capitol to another country?
