Panel advises only banning individuals

Electoral fraud should not justify the dissolution of political parties and the punishment should be limited to individual wrongdoers, the government-appointed constitutional reform committee says.

Wuthisarn Tanchai, secretary to the panel, yesterday said the panel disagreed with Section 237 of the 2007 Constitution which requires a political party to be disbanded if a member commits electoral fraud. The committee considers a political party to be a political institution.

He said the dissolution of political parties is rare overseas. A party should be dissolved only if it commits a serious mistake that affects national security or the constitutional monarchy.

Banning an entire party for the misdeeds of one does seem a little extreme. With Voter/ Electoral fraud there should be heavy monetary fines (like half of all his / her assets), prison time ( two years minimum ) and a life time ban of any political involvement..for any individual guilty of such crimes.

What is this? A government-appointed constitutional reform committee member Wuthisarn Tanchai states some kind of premonition. Does he know that there is enough evidence to implicate/dissolve the Demo Party?

Wow, this is something! You cannot apply double standard again.
