PARTY DISSOLUTIONS
Electoral fraud should not justify the dissolution of political parties and the punishment should be limited to individual wrongdoers, the government-appointed constitutional reform committee says.
Wuthisarn Tanchai, secretary to the panel, yesterday said the panel disagreed with Section 237 of the 2007 Constitution which requires a political party to be disbanded if a member commits electoral fraud. The committee considers a political party to be a political institution.
He said the dissolution of political parties is rare overseas. A party should be dissolved only if it commits a serious mistake that affects national security or the constitutional monarchy.
