The army is breathing a sigh of relief after a Department of Special Investigation (DSI) report concluded troops were not responsible for the death of a Japanese cameraman during last year's red shirt protests.
However, the relief may be short-lived, amid claims that the army chief of staff paid the DSI head a visit to complain about an initial department finding which claimed the opposite _ that soldiers should in fact be blamed for Japanese cameraman Hiroyuki Muramoto's death during the rally at Khok Wua intersection on April 10 last year.
The DSI is likely to face questions about why it changed its stance, though DSI director-general Tharit Pengdit yesterday stood by the latest report, saying it was based on scientific and forensic findings. He also denied meeting the army chief of staff.

Disc 16 - I agree and I feel, without any real evidence, that the MinB were actually disgruntled officers that felt they had been overlooked in the military reshuffles. I also think the targeting of Col R. was on purpose by this group to send a message and I believe the assassination of General K was in retaliation.

DSI must think that Japanese government is less intelligent. BTW, the scientific process of determine what weapon is used, is a very delicate science and the procedure takes 10 months to yield a correct answer.

If the red shirts are guilty of shooting and killing so many people why they have asked for international investigations who will prove that they have done this ? Why the government refused international investigations as it refused about Preah Vihear temple after claiming has been attacked by cambodia. A child of 7 years could find the answer...

Wynner, #8, "We all should keep in mind that if the red shirt protestors had left the Ratchaprasong stage area at any of the early warnings given by the government there would not have been any deaths". It's not serious, this cameraman was killed the 10 of april. The responsible sent the soldiers with war material against Thai protesters. Can you also say if Tunisians, egyptians and other protesters against dictatorship in the middle east, there would not have been any deaths?

Anyone who ever claimed or believed that the government of Abhisit would allow an independent and objective examination of the mass-killings and mass-shootings of April and May 2011 was either naive or ill-intentioned. It is absolutely clear that Thai police organisation and Thai courts are neither willing nor able to examine and prosecute the crimes that were committed. The only hope for justice are international institutions. Many of the culprits are rather young, if not today, tomorrow or in ten years they might be brought to justice. Better late than never.

Ridiculous. They are either completely incompetent because they didn't realise the first time what type of bullets were used or they are blatantly lying. Both I'd say. This government really does believe the public are morons. They're wrong!

I'm sure the Japanese will be delighted with this latest version of events! Only in Thailand could this happen, who the hill is talking to who? or who is actually in charge here?

We all should keep in mind that if the red shirt protestors had left the Ratchaprasong stage area at any of the early warnings given by the government there would not have been any deaths. For this reason and this reason alone the red shirts have to accept the responsibility for the outcome in those days. Those leaders now out on bail, no matter what happens in court, (which will likely be nothing) will have to live with the lives of those lost on their hands for all time. That only matters if they have a conscience and I think some of them do.
