Thaksin Shinawatra's business dealings that led to the seizure of his assets last year have returned to haunt his sister Yingluck, soon after she registered for the July3 election yesterday.

The spectre of a possible new controversy emerged after an online news website posted a news story saying Ms Yingluck's claim to own part of Thaksin's assets could lead to her being disqualified from the election.

browser D11 - Sharing of wealth among relatives is done by most Thais - ask any tax lawyer in Thailand. It's completely legal, although questionably unethical. Forbes has an article called Thailand's 40 Richest, where it states, "many Thai tycoons give away much of their wealth to their children while still alive, in part as a tax dodge."

#27, "a Thaksin resurrection," yes I would say that such a thing should be stopped at any cost. How could any nation on earth tolerate a party run overtly by a convicted criminal in exile receiving foreign aid to undermine his own country? Textbook case of high treason - not even mentioning his yearly calls for armed insurrection - which are subsequently answered with tremendous violence - then blanket denials when they fail.

Agreed with you Khun Thaipen However, I think the elites and their tools are careful not to disqualify Ms Yingluck because doing so will spark a swing of votes to MPs of PTP. PTP is better prepared this time from lessons learned from PAD's street demonstrations and the disobendience by Law enforcement agencies/officers. Thais will not tolerate a coup again. Rule of law will be applied on all.

Just now, Election Commission said that Yingluck is qualified to contest the July 3 election. NO PROBLEM.

Which public office holder is free of corruption in Thailand? Some school management brazenly collects bribe before admitting a student. Most police officers are driving cars worth millions of baht while their overal annual income is far less than that. Are those calling for Thaksin blood free from corruption? Come to think of it, Thaksin is a business wizard, he invested his money thereby contributing to the economy but other politicians squander their ill-gotten money on only luxury.

The " sharing " of his assets among family members are a Chinese thing. Thai people and the poor will never understand.

#12 and #16; This is just repeat of red shirt nonsense as is the claim that the current government was not democratically elected. Abhisit is a Thai citizen and he was elected Prime Minister in the usual democratic way, by the majority vote of MPs. I am not convinced that his government has done as well as they could have, but that is another story.

I think it is normal and appropriate that the issue of qualification is raised. Sure, the legal team of PTP can handle the qualification of all their candidates. Lets sit back and watch how the EC handle the qualification of all political parties candidates.
