Yingluck Shinawatra, Pheu Thai's top party-list candidate, has the right to stand in the July 3 general election as long as she has not been convicted of a criminal offence or sentenced to imprisonment, Election Commission chairman Apichart Sukhagganond says.
Mr Apichart yesterday said the EC was obliged to accept her application if there was no such court ruling on the day she applied. Pheu Thai's candidates on the party list system were registered with the EC on Thursday.
He said any complaint against Ms Yingluck's candidacy must be filed with the EC within 10 days of registration. After that, the EC would endorse her candidacy and any complaint against it has to be filed with the Supreme Court.

Thailand's economy is doing very well. The Thai finance minister was recognised by the world's experts as the best Finance minister during the economic recession. And you know what else they did that was good? They moved the criminal Red Shirts out of Bangkok and restored normalcy to the city. What did Peua Thai do for the country last year?

As expected there are a lot of people on the opposite side wanting to find even the smallest fault with No.1 while the now No. 10 has been lying about his dual citizenship all these years until recently being forced to admit in parliament. Looks like No. 1 opponents are showing they are being afraid of her now that she is standing for election for the top post.

It was difficult for the Fugitive Convicted Criminal to get another one to be his PUPPET apart of Yinluck..his other sister (wife of Somchai) is banned from politics, his brother in law Somchai is banned from politics..his divorced (??)wife is under appeal for a 3 year conviction. So only Yinluck who according to the EC has not commited any crime except some lies in Court..

. How strong you hate Thaksin you couldn't whip him or his ideology out easily from many Thai people who love him. It's just Democracy. So tell the true, whoever PT chooses as PM candidate you will accuse him or her as Thaksin Puppet. So is the best choice that he nominates his Sister as PM candidate to lead the PT and she will success in July 3 election. Come on people, Election Day comes soon and you should life with it. The alternative is the other military coup.

Becky32 Abhisit actually hastn ruled yet all he has done is play damage control for PT while they do everything in their power to get their corrupt leader back including barricading the city for 2 months .If it wasnt already easy to see the economy in Thailand the last few years wasnt a result of Abhisit or Thaksin .There was a world recession .

Discussions 35 & 37: To a large extent I think you're right about the fear of Thaksin possibly winning. I would really dislike Thaksin and his team of "Harmony Creators" - Jatuporn, Natthawut, and maybe even Arisaman - to form the government. There will be so much unrest and continuous demonstrations, especially when he wipes clean his many crimes and those of his (alleged) terrorist Red Shirts. The country has to move on, even with its imperfections. Thaksin doesn't want to return just so he can help his brother and sister Thais as he says. That's just Thaksin hot air. Thaksin's priorities are his family dynasty and amassing wealth and power. Thailand is the means to his ends. But such is the understanding of his motives and intentions, based also on his previous behaviour, I don't believe that he will succeed.

@englishbob, Investing in ones country is an act of patriotism because imployment is generated. It is interesting to note that Thaksin has not been linked with frozen of oversea account saga or oversea asset seizure which is common to all currupt leaders. There are underlying reasons for the 2006 coup not just tax evasion.

Comment #35 got it all! What you have here is Thaksin phobia..They're all afraid Thailand will go forward instead backward like AV is running now! If anyone want to go backward, vote #10 and forward vote #1. Simple!!! Look at his past 2 yrs performances and look at Thaksin's policy performances prior of coup 2006...100% different!!

In both Thailand and Cambodia, the political system is the same; the background is the military.
