A total of 123 candidates running in the July 3 election have sought police protection.
The Royal Thai Police Office has sent 232 police to provide protection to the 123 candidates at their request, said national police chief Wichean Potephosree.
He had instructed his subordinates to take measures to prevent the use of violence between rival candidates during the election and to arrest those found vandalising or destroying campaign billboards.
