This bring up a somehow similar case when some misguided "environmentalists" blocked a short road to be built from Kamphaeng Phet to Umphang. This road would not disturb anyone and would open one of the best outdoor areas in Thailand. Now it needs a 500km detour via Mae Sot. The people living in that area would all like this road since it will bring work, people and money, very easy. But some people in remote Bangkok try that people in the border area wont have a chance to prosper. The new government should look into this and similar cases, go realistic and put local people first.

Tansri is 100% right . Plant some trees .Plant a lot of trees Not only will the flooding reduce but the air temperature will also cool down .If I,m wrong then you could just cut them all down again .

Major reason for more floods is deforestation. Thailand natural forest area is reduced by 20-30% last 20 years versus new plantation is only 5%. It's the best natural encatchment to absorb and slow down water. Dam may solve one problem but always at the expense of another permanent environmental destruction. Illegal logging, deforestation and encroachment is a serious crime and put people in harms way.
