Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul has lodged a complaint with Phaya Thai police against Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and three other Democrats for defamation and filing a complaint with false accusations against him.
Mr Surapong was accompanied yesterday, Aug 22, by Pheu Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit and Pichit Chuenban, the party's legal adviser.
The foreign minister accused Mr Abhisit, Nipit Intarasombat, Wirat Kallayasiri and Watchara Phetthong of defaming him by alleging that he had asked the Japanese government to grant an entry visa to former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Must be sad for a ruler as regal as Thaksin to wake up everyday knowing over half of his country despise him

This legal counter-attack has been employed by Hun Sen against his opponents in Cambodia, and the results were even effectively to the government more than expected. In the bottom line, politic is going no where for the good of the nation, but the best for the individual party who claiming the victory.

Looking like Thai politics were learned in the school playground! If you do that i will do it back to you. I am going to tell my mummy of you. I am going to tell the teacher of you! Remember sticks and stones can break your bones but names will never hurt you! What we have here is Toxin flexing his muscles. Showing to everyone in Thailand that he can do what he wants and when he wants to do it. He is rubbing salt in to the wounds of all the people, who know the wrongs that he has done. He has never accepted the fact or received the punishment for doing it. He has only been charged for the land deal. Isn't there more charges waiting for him to face when (not if) he comes back?

The DEM and Abhisit have been nonsense as their party has been for decades. Abhisit and the DEM have ruined relation with many countries in the past few years. Now they are still trying to make more damages on foreign relationship of Thailand. Personally, I believe Japan always welcome Dr. Thaksin to visit, unless being requested not to allow such visit by a nonsense and evil-intended "government"!

Surapong's retaliation writ against the Democrat leader is regrettable but nevertheless understandable. The latter is to be condemned for attempting to discredit the new FM by exploiting what he knows only to well is a deeply flawed charter provision - party dissolution. If he genuinely believed in advancing Thai democracy, he would not allow himself to be dragged into narrow-minded tit for tat gutter politics.

Are the Democrats so obsessed about this one man because they lack substance when ti comes to real policies? It's pathetic so see Mark and his sidekicks going on about one man we're all fed up with.

Is it not the sworn duty of the foreign minister to uphold the laws of Thailand, and ask Japan to arrest Thaksin, and extradite him back to Thailand? This is the only way he can prove that he did not ask Japan to help Thaksin, and what he is sworn to do. If he does not ask Japan to arrest Thaksin then he does not belong in office as he is showing he does not care about Thailand's laws. He now has to answer as to why he is not asking Japan to arrest Thaksin, and extradite him. Is that not his job?

A number of years ago in New Zealand the then Prime Minister, Robert Muldoon, sued a well known property developer, Bob Jones, for defamation. Muldoon won the case. The judge awarded damages of $1. Reasoning; Muldoon argued that he was held in very high regard by the public while Jones was held in low regard by the public. Jones argued that Muldoon was held in low regard by the public. Judge said that if he accepted either arguement then Jones could not have done significant damage to Muldoon's reputation. If a Thai politition happened to win a defamation suit, maybe an award of one baht might be considered too high?

D19: I understand your feelings. There is nothing to feel bad about this. When you drive your bike/car out, do you stop after every other driver who pisses you off. Keep up your pride as a Thai (Poor but Thai). There is nothing wrong about it. OK
