A war of words yesterday erupted between members of a Senate panel and former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva who was invited to testify about last year's political violence which left 92 people dead.
During the three-hour inquiry, most of the panel members asked leading questions based on their personal assumptions, prompting Mr Abhisit to oppose their questioning and ask them to be more logical.
Si Sa Ket Senator Jittipoj Wiriyarote, the panel chairman, said members agreed that although there were between 10 and 20 black-clad gunmen among the red-shirt protesters, this did not give state officials the authority to "spray bullets" at the crowd to disperse the protesters.

Many said the soldiers are red at heart, so why would sholdiers knowingly fire at the very people he supported, especially the innocent? I'm sure they fired upon people who fired at them first or threw homemade bombs. I would trust my life with a soldier than any of the corrupt and useless police in this country. Our soldiers are not that dumb to not discriminiate against good or bad. Not saying there wasn't any soldiers who shot innocent people, there might be. But in general they are more trust worthy and more discipline than the police.

Abhisit and his bosses behind the scene were more "lucky" than their dictators peers in the middle East, since Abhisit and his bosses were kicked out of power by the people through election, rather than by bigger uprising by the people like in the M.E.

#52, If you talk about the war of drugs for TS, can you talk about a war against the politic opponents/protesters for A.V? Anyway, if have innocents killed in the police operations, the first in Gvt is totally responsible if he signed orders to shoot on everybody in the streets. He has a part of responsibility if the police exceeds it rights. This cases must be judged, But be sure that i will change my opinion if TS tells that the people, during the WOD, were killed because they ran to meet a bullet.

ricefield D50 - The April 2009 military crackdown resulted in 2 dead and dozens injured. The April 2010 crackdown by the military resulted in 26 dead and 800 injured. AV knew this, he accepted this, and still ordered a third even more forceful crackdown. The result: 92 dead, thousands injured, 60+ missing. He had control, as he knew what was going to happen given his experience of the previous two crackdowns.

Disc 34 - Actually Ben, I don't think Abhisit had any control but that does not negate the fact that the constitution and organic laws puts him at the top of the heap. As the man on top and he, and he alone, is ultimately responsible for the actions of those he is in charge of. Sad fact of being the boss, even if only by name.

"Mr Abhisit denied the allegation. He said he did not order the army to shoot at people, but casualties occured because soldiers who manned security checkpoints were attacked by unidentified gunmen and they had to act in self-defence." "How can you end a protest if you use water cannons to disperse protesters who return fire with a series of M79 grenades?" Result? Dead unarmed protestors: close to 100. Dead "unidentified gunmen": 0... Now that's some real logical result there... I don't know how Abhisit can keep lying about this when there are countless of videos on youtube showing soldiers shooting indiscriminatingly into unarmed crowds. The most ironic ending is when Interpol drags him back from the UK to face trial on Thai soil.
