interesting comments here, and I believe an article in the BP trying to find a middle way. In particular I agree with D1 FUNGUS that money, better spent would probably solve a lot of the problems the ISOC is trying to prevent through the use of force. CANUCK & SUBCOMON also make good points. I for one would like to know if the out can see the distribution of resources to make it clear how much money went where. Something tells me there would be an odd imbalance of distribution.

Panlop is a socal butterfly in the smelly halls of politics here, he's batted for both sides and, like Chalivit, Snoh et al, sells his allegiance for a last swansong of power. He would not be welcome on ISOC, Yingluck/Thaksin might have opted for a better choice of individual, but I suppose it's all about getting in their enemy's faces.

A failed state, where Thailand was very near to be many times in decades, has a clear character that is "1 country, 2 systems". 1 system is the democratically elected government system preferred and supported by 99.99% of Thai. Another system, in the opposition of the democratic system, is the autocratic system by a handful of people, empowerd by a privatearmy like military, trying, desperately, to fight the trend of democracy, globalization and civilization.

Panlop made the mistake in handling Krusae incident. He was also accused of attempting to assassinate Thaksin. He was with PAD at first. However, I think many peoples fear him because he has a lot of knowledge and information on the connection between powerful peoples and drug lords, and corruptions involving military personnel. He could have been assassinated for knowing too much.

The problem lies with Gen Panlop, he does not obey his surperiors' order which led to the Krue Se Mosque massacre. Yes, those killed were insurgents and terrorists, but what if there was innocent people inside? Gen Panlop has a trigger happy finger and is a rogue general who should not be given great power of command. If ISOC is used as a political tool, why is the PTP trying to put their own people in command? shouldn't they change the structure so ISOC will have less influence and power? Why are they following the DEMs footsteps in committing the same crime they are accusing the DEMs of?

Title should read; "Thaksin fights for ISOC" control. Because it is the easiest way for him to whitewash himself and to wipe the acts of terror of his red thugs under the carpet.

Gen Panlop’s claim, "I don't know why junior soldiers in the armed forces and the Isoc are afraid of me," translates to the reality that he DOES know why and that they probably have good reason. Also, when he has to come right out and says, "I will not take revenge against anyone, or wipe out or persecute anyone. I will just work to help ensure national security and use the Isoc in the right way”, means that he most likely is already known as a vengeful person and will do exactly the opposite of what he says. Don’t these guys ever retire?
